 Is the Village Blooming Lovely?

This year's Civic Trust Annual Floral Awards will be judged by Northumbria in Bloom's stalwart, Walter Dinning.  Walter is no stranger to the town.  He has given presentations to local horticultural groups, judged us in the Northumbria competition and last year judged the floral awards.  As a regular visitor to the race course, we can't pull the wool over Walter's eyes - he loves our hospitality and doesn't miss an opportunity to pay us a visit on his travels.

The Civic Trust and Sedgefield in Bloom members will be out short listing gardens, (which must be able to be seen from the path or road), in late July, ready for Walter to judge on Thursday 7th August.  So get those gardens picture perfect for Northumbria in Bloom judging on 24th July and keep them in tip top condition ready for Walter to judge in the Floral Awards on Thursday 7th August.  Good Luck!

Hidden Garden Competition

We believe there are some hidden gems, back gardens, secluded spots which are a pleasure to relax in. Do you have a beautiful little haven, hidden from view?  Then we would like to see it.

To enter, just call in at Sedgefield Town Council offices and leave a photo with your name, address and telephone number or email your details including the photo to john@robinson644.freeserve.co.uk by 31st July.  Any printed photos will be returned.  Judging will take place during August, by appointment with householders.
Chernobyl Children's' Day

We first welcomed children from Belarus to Sedgefield 3 years ago after the then Mayor was approached by the late Ellen Timney, (past council staff member), to help when they were hosted by Chernobyl Children's Lifeline.  Ellen asked us to welcome these children and make a day special for them.  Since then, it has become an annual event.

Mayor of Sedgefield town, Cllr. Tim Jeanes and Mayor of Sedgefield Borough Council Cllr. John Robinson, will host a group of young children from Belarus in August.  More than twenty children are to spend the day enjoying our lovely countryside, courtesy of our councils, Sedgefield Community Association and local businesses.  A trip to Locomotion Railway Museum in Shildon, Auckland Castle and outdoor games and a children's party in Ceddesfeld Hall will conclude the visit.

These visits are very important in helping to improve the health and wellbeing of children who are still suffering from the results of nuclear fall out over twenty years ago.  Both Tim and John are looking forward to sharing the day with such special children.  Ellen has certainly left a legacy for our visitors to enjoy and her passion to help others has inspired the Ellen Timney Foundation for disadvantaged local children.

Youth Council is not Childs Play

Sedgefield's elected Youth Council is a force to be reckoned with.  Its members are calling for councils and local groups to account for their actions and expressing the views of young people across all aspects of life.  Recent meetings have addressed recycling, the Mediaeval Fayre, activities for young people and how to improve representation.  Town Council members are delighted that the Youth Council are taking such an active role in decision making and in shaping youth services and facilities for the future and look forward to working closely with them.
 Tub planting
The annual tub planting on the village green took place Thursday 14th June on a cold damp morning. However even the weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the local groups and schools who turned up, and had a great time planting and watering the tubs. All were rewarded with orange and muffins served in the Parish Hall
