Walking through the arch of the Hardwick Arms, past the converted coaching houses will bring you to the edge of the showfield. This was part of the common land and not part of the Hardwick estate. Across the field lies Hardwick Park - now a Country Park being restored to its earlier glories. Details about the Country Park may be found here.
The next field also contains archeology from the Roman period. It has been investigated by Time Team. Durham University Department of Archeology has an on-going series of investigations during the summer months.
The showfield is still used for the Annual Agricultural Show on the second Saturday in August.
